I have always felt that, without this great community, I am nothing. It is with a humble heart and much respect that I am making a call out to my communuity. I have a goal to attend a Circus Camp called Big Horse Productions towards the end of March. They specialize in Equestrian Acrobatics and general circus skills. For those of you who know me well, you know about my dreams and goals. I am at my happiest when I am upsidedown on parallettes, performing partner balance acts, equestrain gymnastics, free running, and crossfitting hard!
Here's where you all come in. I am offering great deals on personal training sessions.I specalize Crossfit proficiency of the 10 general physical skills, parkour, parallettes, handstands, kettlebells, and partner balance. I will not make it to Big Horse without your help.
I NEED you to start booking your sessions with me before the circus takes me away...
I am a fountain of knowledge and have dedicated several years developing a deep understanding of human mechanics on my quest of becmoming the Practitioner of Movement that I am today. Let me give back to you so that I might be able to rise to the next level.
I am open to any and all ideas and offerings of help on this quest to get me closer to my dreams. (I have set up a donation button dedicated solely to this cause on the upper right hand side of this blog page for any benevolent souls who wish to help.) I can be reached at 512-921-7563 or randalsetzler@crossfitcentral.com
I thank you all in advance.
-Randal
I am of the opinion that my life belongs to the whole community and as long as I live, it is my privilege to do for it whatever I can. I want to be thoroughly used up when I die, for the harder I work the more I live. ~George Bernard Shaw

Loss of a Legend

Helio Gracie, the father of Gracie jiu-jitsu, is dead at the age of 95. Gracie passed in his sleep early Thursday in Itaipaiva, Rio de Janeiro, after he had been admitted to a local hospital a few days prior for stomach problems.
“He passed the way he always wanted to –- quick and fast,” said an immediate relative, who asked not to be identified. The relative said Gracie’s body would be buried on Thursday.
The youngest of Cesalina and Gastao Gracie’s eight children, he learned traditional jiu-jitsu by watching his brother, Carlos, teach it, but his small frame made it difficult for him to execute the moves. As a result, he adapted techniques to fit his limited physical ability and gave rise to modern-day Brazilian jiu-jitsu.
Gracie was involved in two legendary fights. He lost to Masahiko Kimura -- a man who outweighed him by some 80 pounds -- in 1951 when Carlos threw in the towel after Kimura broke Gracie’s arm with the shoulder lock that now bears his name. Four years later, Gracie fought former student Valdemar Santana for nearly four hours and won by technical knockout after Santana succumbed to exhaustion.
His impact on the sport of mixed martial arts was profound. His son, Rorion, was credited with developing the concept that became the Ultimate Fighting Championship, and another of his sons, Royce, won the first two UFC tournaments in 1993 and 1994. Two other sons, Rickson and Royler, also competed in MMA.
Gracie is survived by his wife Vera; his sons Rickson, Royler, Rolker, Royce, Relson, Robin and Rorion; his daughters Rerika and Ricci, as well as numerous siblings, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.
TJ DeSantis contributed to this report.
Having been a previous student of Austin's Relson Gracie Academy I feel the loss of this hero, even though I have not hit the mats for some time now.
His loss will be felt all throughout the MMA communinty, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academys, grapplers, and fans all over the world. Your place in Hall of Valhalla awaits you..

Fighting for Inches
My Tues/Thur bootcamp knows what it is to fight for inches. They fight for it daily on 400m runs, in every renegade row, every squat, every, push press.
The "six inches in front of your face", that's where we Live. It's the choices you make in that place that ultimately defines you, and, over time, the course of your life, until the end.
So many of us have grand plans for "Out There" or "The Future", but never really focus on what's right in front of us, right now.
Now... What are you gonna do?

My new Hero
Rick Hawthorne has made the top of my hero's list. I recently attended a 2 day clinic with Rick and his wife Virginia and from the moment I walked into the arena I was greeted with the warmest hugs, to the even warmer hugs we exchanged when I left, I was in the best of company. Rick is the kind of guy who has a Hall of Fame section on his website ValleyViewVaulters to commemorate some of the vaulting horses he has worked with and lost through time in his 3+ decades of equestrian vaulting experience. He has taught and worked with the best in the industry but his eyes still light up every time a vaulter runs out to the horse; even me! He embodies nothing but positive energy and I wish to take back some of his energy and aura with me and place it into my classes and personal training sessions. I can proudly say that I am a different vaulter now and possibly a different coach after my expereince out there in the dust and the cold of the dirt arena.
