I have always felt that I am better with actions than with words so it is with much gratitude that I thank Mel Joulwan for her great writeup about the Battle Royale that took place this morning. (For those who don't know, Mel is a previous Roller Derby Girl and the author of Roller Girl: Totally True Tales From the Track
(Here is a exerpt from her blog)
Two mighty forces met this morning in the Deep Eddy parking lot for an athletic showdown: Randal's LCRA 6:15 Bootcamp and Crystal's Deep Eddy 6:30 Bootcamp. But why be a fighter when you can be a lover? We joined forces in mixed teams and took on the challenge of med ball squats, renegade rows, and parallettes together to make sweet, sweet workout harmony.
The workout:
total combined team reps, for time:
400 overhead squats, 10-lb. med ball
300 in-and-outs on parallettes
200 renegade rows, 15-lb. dumbbells
Our team finished last... AWESOME! If you're not gonna be first, you may as well be last and enjoy the ride.
Med ball relay:
1 runner sprinted w/ a med ball
4 team members plank

Acrobatic Yoga Workshop Oct 25th 12-3pm
This is a workshop that is not to be missed!
Acrobatic Yoga is a includes the pliability of yoga, the therapeutic benefits of Thai massage, with the dynamic power of acrobatics. This workshop will help you increase your body awareness and control while actively engaging strength and flexibility.
Maranda Pleasant and myself have taught several workshops all over Texas and have performed under the name "Circus Yogis" for several events such as the Keep Austin Bizzare at the Palmer Events Center.

Crossfit Central invades Whole Foods again...
I had the great opportunity to participate in Lululemon's Weird Wednesday to lead a half CrossFit, half Acrobatic Yoga class on top of Whole Foods. (The same spot where we sweat at FGBIII)
When I put on the headset, I morphed into some kind of Billy Blanks meets Sea World Commentator...needless to say it was crazy and I was on fire!

The Lulu girls rocked it out!

Maranda and I got people flying with or Acrobatic yoga..well into sunset.

there was even a DJ

Horses + Gymnastics = Horse Vaulting
Equestrian vaulting is most often described as gymnastics and dance on horseback, and like these disciplines, it is an art and not a highly competitive sport. It is one of ten competitive equestrian events recognized by the International Federation of Equestrian Sport.Therapeutic or Interactive Vaulting is also used as form of treatment for children and adults who may have balance, attention, gross motor skill, or social deficits.
Some trace the origins of vaulting to Roman games, including acrobatic displays on cantering horses. Others see roots in the bull dancers of ancient Crete. In either case, people have been performing acrobatic and dance-like movements on the backs of moving horses for more than 2,000 years. The first known depiction of vaulting was from stone painting, dated at around 1500 BC, of Scandinavian riders standing on horses.
Vaulting was later used to help cavalry troops increase their abilities on the horse, and the troops would begin by working on a wooden horse before advancing to a live, moving mount. Modern vaulting was developed in post-war Germany as part of set of exercises for improving general riding. Cavalry officers introduced the sport at the 1920 Olympic Games in Antwerp as "Artistic Riding," although the sport was not continued in the Games.
