Being a coach at CrossFit Central I strive to practice what I preach. I push my students hard and I treat myself the same way. So at the beginning of April I started posting my workouts and their details on the CrossFit.com message board. Anyone can take a look and see what I do and if you take the time to log in you can leave feedback and various comments. Also, while you're there I reccomend you look around and check out the forum. There are great posts on workouts, nutrition, exercises, technique, and more...

I have been a practitioner of Parkour for over 3 years and have worked to help form one of the largest groups in the Southern United States (texasparkour.com.) What intrigued me the most was how this discipline encouraged, if not demanded, freedom of expression during its methods of movement yet while giving a understanding to practical application of fundamental CrossFit techniques such as the jump squat, muscle up, and more. I quickly saw a parallel of goals such as the 1st set of CrossFit's fitness standards pertaining to the proficiency in the ten recognized general physical skills.....(to read the full article go to) http://www.crossfitcentral.com/content/view/412/231/
All aboard! The med. ball wagon has pulled into the station and is about to rocket CrossFit Central Bootcampers into a slimmer, toner midsection by strengthening the abs, obliques, and lower back. Improving core strength should be a goal for everyone. Movement and stability begin with the core – abdominals, lower back, hips and spine. The core is the body’s center of power. Using a medicine ball to train the core is perfect because you can perform so many functional movements similar to those that you do in everyday life. The CrossFit Central Bootcampers that meet M/W/F 6:15-7:15@LCRA are all agree how invaluable of a tool the med. ball is. The proof is in the results.
THE FITTEST GAMES CHALLENGE There is 1 event left in the series of athletic events utilizing the CrossFit method of training. Proceeds for The Fittest Games Challenge benefit Autism Speaks, a national organization dedicated to finding a cure and preventative measures for Autism. These challenges are a fun way to be active in the community for a great cause! The events will be scaled to everyone's ability and will include beginner, intermediate, and elite levels as well as a men's and women's division. The elite male and female who complete all challenges, with the most total points, will win the Grand Prize and go on to compete in the National CrossFit Games this July! May 3rd is the last of these events so mark yout calendar and start training!
The great people out at LCRA meet 6:30-7:30am M/W/F. We start when it's still dark and finish just as the sun emerges. Christine, Gina, and Bob have been working hard learning medicine ball drills that involve things like overhead and side throws, cleans, & med. ball situps. They deftly maneuver their feet through each step of the run ladder. They have experienced Tabata style drills and circuts of multiple rounds with relative ease and they still keep coming back asking for more. I can honestly say it is a pleasure to wake up before the sun and to train these warriors 3 times a week. They put their hearts into each workout and I can feel the energy rise as soon as they show up. Keep it up!

I have been a longtime fan of golden age strongmen. They were the ones who performed unusual feats of strength usually involving globe dumbbellls, kettlebells, and olympic bars. Mr. Sandow would have been 141 years old today. Obviously Mr. Sandow and his breed are long gone but many techniques are still practiced today. (about the man) Eugen Sandow (April 2, 1867 – October 14, 1925) was a pioneering bodybuilder of the Victorian era. Sandow's resemblance to the physiques found on classic Greek and Roman sculpture was no accident. He actually measured the marble artworks in museums and helped to develop "The Grecian Ideal" as a formula for the "perfect physique." He built his physique to those exact proportions. Because of this, he is considered to be the "Father of Modern Bodybuilding." (legacy) Sandow authored five books: Sandow's System of Physical Training, Strength and How To Obtain It, Body-Building, Strength and Health, Life is Movement, and The Construction and Reconstruction of the Human Body. As recognition of his contribution to the sport of bodybuilding, a bronze statue of Sandow sculpted by Frederick Pomeroy has been presented to the Mr Olympia winner since 1977. This statue is simply known as "The Sandow".
(For the record- I value well rounded functional fitness over body sculpting but I have to give mad props to anyone who displays this level of dedication and skill. The fact that he does a standing back tuck gives insight that he could do more than just "scope the guns.")
I am on a personal mission to fully explore my capabilities of functional movement and to tear down the things I once considered barriers. I have recently purchased a video camera to document my progress in this exploration of full potential so that I may chart my progress and share what I have learned. That being said here is a older video of me shortly after my vision of becoming a "full time practitioner of movement" became clear. I am still on the journey....
